“Estate, long-term care, and special needs planning appealed to me because the practice is rooted in human connection. Each client comes to the process carrying a lifetime of experiences, relationships, and concerns, and the work begins with meaningful conversation rather than documents.

Growing up with a parent who worked as a social worker shaped the way I approach those conversations, teaching me the importance of listening carefully, exercising empathy, and meeting people where they are. In this setting, clients are often asked to confront difficult questions about responsibility, family, independence, and the future. Being invited into that space is a privilege, and guiding clients through these discussions by clarifying their options and supporting decisions that reflect their values is what makes this practice deeply meaningful to me.”

Avery L. Mickle, Esq.

Associate Attorney

Avery L. Mickle joined the Capital Region office of Pierro, Connor, and Strauss, LLC as an Associate Attorney in January 2026. Prior to becoming an Associate Attorney, Mr. Mickle served as a Law Clerk at the firm for 1½ years, working with attorneys and clients throughout the planning process, from initial consultations through document preparation, review, and execution.

Previous Experience

Mr. Mickle regularly conducts legal research, drafts and reviews planning documents, and assists with client communications and ongoing plan maintenance. Mr. Mickle earned his Juris Doctor from Albany Law School, where he concentrated his studies in Trusts and Estates. During law school, he engaged in client-facing and public-interest work through the Edward P. Swyer Justice Center Health Law Clinic, a program grounded in pro bono service and advocacy for individuals facing complex legal and health-related challenges. Through the clinic, Mr. Mickle represented clients in matters involving estate planning and public benefits, working directly with individuals and families, conducting legal research, and drafting court documents. This work reinforced his interest in counseling clients through legally complex and emotionally significant decisions, and in providing thoughtful, practical guidance during periods of transition.

Mr. Mickle was also actively involved with the Albany Law Trusts and Estates Society and the Health Law Society. Prior to law school, Mr. Mickle earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University at Albany, SUNY, with a minor in Law and Philosophy. He was a consistent member of the Dean’s List throughout all his studies and developed a strong academic foundation in law and public policy.

Community Involvement

Born and raised in Saratoga Springs, Mr. Mickle maintains a strong connection to the Capital Region and a deep sense of civic responsibility. His upbringing instilled an appreciation for the people and institutions that shape local communities, an influence that continues to inform his professional values and commitment to service.

During law school, Mr. Mickle completed over 140 pro bono hours and volunteered for several community and educational initiatives, including the Health Law Symposium, National Healthcare Decisions Day, Trick-or-Treat Street, and the Appellate Division, Third Department oral arguments hosted at Albany Law School. He was a semifinalist in the Donna Jo Morse Client Counseling Competition and served as a Teaching Assistant for Professor Armstrong’s first-year Torts course.

Prior to law school, at the University at Albany, SUNY, Mr. Mickle served as a peer mentor, participated in the Debate Club, and was a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and took part in the Transatlantic Leadership Seminar in collaboration with Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences.
